The Mimosa Tree

by Marcie Elliott-Smith

When I was a little girl, there was a lovely mimosa tree towards the front of our property.

About half-way up the tree, there was a fork in a large branch which was the perfect place to sit and read.

It was my sanctuary for reflection and solitude.

Trophies of God

This morning, I have been reading about when Saul turned on David. Even while being hunted...HUNTED...by Saul, David did not curse Saul.

When David first begins to run for his life from Saul, he went to Ahimelek--a priest.

Then something extraordinarily beautiful happens. David--who fled without arming himself, asks the priest if he has a spear or sword  he can use!

1 Samuel 21:
The priest replied, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one.”

Right now, I am arrested by the Spirit in the beauty of knowing He (our High Priest) keeps trophies of when we win a battle together! It was hidden behind the priestly prayer garment!

David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”

What an understatement. "There is none like it...."   David faced that sword in overwhelming odds... and won. Now, David probably was still not large enough to actually USE that sword...but to travel with it as a trophy and a testament that what God has done and will do again? Yes.

 "Give it to me."

This is where I began to cry and pray and let the Lord remind me of trophies we have together.

It sounds a lot like "Remember when...?" and finishes off with

"Well, I have kept that for you..."

I had not considered the Trophy Room that God and I have together. He has done great things for me. And to think that when I go to Jesus, our High Priest, and ask Him for the weapon I need for the day...

Pick up that trophy sword and win again.

I feel really small and deeply comforted today.

We are not ALONE.

And our DAD keeps trophies for us.

Love,

Marcie
